{"id":176187,"date":"2026-06-20T08:08:05","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T11:08:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/keynews.sr\/atompai-seeks-sale-of-loss-making-state-owned-enterprises\/"},"modified":"2026-06-20T08:08:05","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T11:08:05","slug":"atompai-seeks-sale-of-loss-making-state-owned-enterprises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/keynews.sr\/en\/atompai-seeks-sale-of-loss-making-state-owned-enterprises\/","title":{"rendered":"Atompai seeks sale of loss-making state-owned enterprises"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"intro-text\">\n<p>&#8220;Let us sell the companies,&#8221; DNA member Poetini Atompai stated on Thursday in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dna.sr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">parliament<\/a> during the budget debate regarding loss-making state-owned enterprises.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"dropcap \" style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000; border-color: #ffffff;\">A<\/span>tompai pointed out that the state manages approximately 160 companies and a large portion of these are loss-making, requiring the state to subsidize these companies by millions every month. &#8220;It is constantly stated that there is no money in the country, yet millions are subsidized to state-owned enterprises that contribute nothing to the state treasury.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>He also expressed concern regarding the boards and executives of these companies, who earn thousands of US dollars but produce nothing for the state. &#8220;This is unacceptable and we must change this system. You cannot invest money in a company that does not generate profits,&#8221; Atompai said. <\/p>\n<p>The previous government already had plans to privatize approximately 30 parastatal companies and government institutions, but this decision was shelved due to heavy criticism from the opposition at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Former Minister of Finance and Planning Stanley Raghoebarsing stated in the context of this decision that some <a href=\"https:\/\/keynews.sr\/landveld-overheid-zet-in-op-bijscholing-voor-nieuw-benoemde-rvc-leden-staatsbedrijven\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state-owned enterprises<\/a> must remain under state management, while others should simply be privatized.
