The training was organised by LVV&#8217;s ressort office in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"dropcap \" style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000; border-color: #ffffff;\">The<\/span> training, titled <em>Construction and Management Techniques for Tropical Greenhouses<\/em>, took place in the multifunctional hall in Brokopondo. According to LVV, interest exceeded the number of places available. The ministry therefore sees the first training round as part of a broader programme to introduce more farmers to modern and sustainable production methods.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, participants received an explanation of the basic principles of crop cultivation. Attention was paid, among other things, to seed quality, germination, the germination rate and the average germination period of various vegetable crops. This knowledge is intended to help farmers plan cultivation and improve crop emergence.<\/p>\n<p>The use of a greenhouse as a protected cultivation environment was also discussed. A well-designed greenhouse can protect crops against heavy rainfall, strong winds and excessive sunlight. In addition, insect netting and other protective measures can be used to keep harmful insects out of the greenhouse.<\/p>\n<p>As high temperatures pose a challenge for greenhouse cultivation in tropical areas, the farmers also received information on ventilation methods, water management and construction requirements. These measures are intended to contribute to a more favourable growing climate for the crops.<\/p>\n<p>According to LVV, tropical greenhouse cultivation can offer new opportunities for the agricultural sector in Brokopondo. Protected cultivation systems can help farmers increase crop production and quality and limit the effects of changing weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The ressort office says it will continue in the coming period with training sessions, practical demonstrations and partnerships with national and international organisations.
