Alliance Fran\u00e7aise Suriname is organising the eighth edition of the Francophone Cin\u00e9Marathon on September 25, 26 and 27.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

D<\/span>uring the three-day film event, six productions will be screened that highlight the cultural and geographical diversity of the French language. The programme includes films from Qu\u00e9bec, France and Haiti, among others. The Disney-Pixar film Coco<\/em> will also be screened entirely in French, including the songs. The film has Dutch subtitles.<\/p>\n

According to the organisation, the selection shows that French is not exclusively linked to one country or culture. The language is used worldwide and provides access to a variety of stories, music and traditions.<\/p>\n

Six films on the programme<\/h2>\n

The Cin\u00e9Marathon opens with Starbuck<\/em>, a comedy from Qu\u00e9bec about a man who discovers that his anonymous sperm donations years earlier resulted in the birth of more than five hundred children. The film humorously addresses themes such as fatherhood, family and responsibility.<\/p>\n

For visitors of all ages, Coco<\/em> is on the programme. The animated film revolves around love, family, memories, music and the bond between different generations. The French-language version was personally selected and recommended by the chair of Alliance Fran\u00e7aise Suriname.<\/p>\n

The French black comedy Tatie Danielle<\/em> will also be screened. The film is about an apparently charming elderly woman who severely tests the patience of her family and those around her.<\/p>\n

In Le R\u00e9pondeur<\/em>, a man hires someone to answer his phone calls. The situation becomes complicated when his replacement begins to take over his identity ever more convincingly. The comedy addresses themes such as identity, relationships and modern life.<\/p>\n

The Caribbean is represented by Royal Bonbon<\/em>, a Haitian-French production about a man who believes he is King Christophe. The film brings together history, memory and imagination against the backdrop of contemporary Haiti.<\/p>\n

Closing with Pride selection<\/h2>\n

The Cin\u00e9Marathon concludes with Ana\u00efs in Love<\/em>. This French romantic tragicomedy centres on the impulsive Ana\u00efs, who feels increasingly attracted to \u00c9milie.\u00a0Alliance Fran\u00e7aise Suriname presents the film as its Pride selection and aims to make diversity and the freedom to love part of the cultural conversation surrounding the event.<\/p>\n

The eighth Francophone Cin\u00e9Marathon will be held at Alliance Fran\u00e7aise Suriname at Letitia Vriesdelaan 14 in Paramaribo. Admission is free for members of the organisation.
