The first major subsea production equipment for the project has now arrived at the Kuldipsingh Port Facility in Paramaribo. The French energy giant still expects first oil to be produced in 2028.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"dropcap \" style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000; border-color: #ffffff;\">P<\/span>atrick Pouyann\u00e9, chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, visited the port facility during his visit to Suriname. He also met with President Jennifer Simons. The Kuldipsingh Port Facility is one of three logistics bases being deployed to support the GranMorgu project and is already being used for drilling activities.<\/p>\n<p>Since the final investment decision, the so-called Final Investment Decision (FID), was taken in October 2024, various components of the project have been further developed. According to TotalEnergies, construction of the FPSO, production of the subsea production system and fabrication of risers and flowlines, among other things, are progressing according to schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Preparations are also being made for a new drilling campaign and offshore installation work. These activities are due to start in early 2027 and ultimately lead to the planned first oil production in 2028.<\/p>\n<h3>Thousands of jobs expected<\/h3>\n<p>According to TotalEnergies, the GranMorgu project is expected to eventually support around 6,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs. The company also expects between USD 1 billion and USD 1.5 billion to be spent in Suriname during the lifetime of the project.<\/p>\n<p>According to the company, implementation of the project is already creating growing demand for local services and technical expertise. By the end of 2026, more than 600 jobs within the project are expected to be filled by Surinamese.<\/p>\n<p>More than one hundred Surinamese companies from various sectors are reportedly already carrying out work for or contributing to the project.<\/p>\n<p>TotalEnergies and the contractors involved in the project are also investing in worker training, qualification of local suppliers and recruitment. Cooperation is also taking place with educational institutions and programmes such as SURICAP to prepare Surinamese workers and businesses for work during both the construction phase and the later production phase.<\/p>\n<h3>New exploration campaign<\/h3>\n<p>Pouyann\u00e9 says that with the arrival of the first major production equipment, it is becoming increasingly clear that GranMorgu is taking shape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe arrival of the first major production equipment and preparations for the first activities of the drilling campaign show that progress is being made towards First Oil in 2028,\u201d the executive said.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that, according to TotalEnergies, the project is simultaneously creating jobs and business opportunities for Surinamese workers and companies.<\/p>\n<p>TotalEnergies also plans to conduct a new exploration campaign in Blok 58 in 2027 and 2028. The company is working there with partners APA Corporation and Staatsolie.<\/p>\n<p>GranMorgu will be Suriname\u2019s first large-scale offshore oil production project.
