Police found thirty bags containing approximately 850 kilograms of copper pipes, power cables and air-conditioning lines in his vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The bags were in the boot and on the back seat of the vehicle. The driver stated that he had bought the goods in Nickerie, but was unable to produce a proof of purchase or receipt.<\/p>\n<p>According to police, further investigation showed that the copper shipment had been smuggled from Guyana into Suriname.<\/p>\n<p>Following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, I.B. was remanded in custody. Police seized both the shipment and the vehicle.
