A 45-year-old police inspector escaped an attempted armed robbery on Monday, October 5, on J.A. Pengelstraat. According to police, three armed men tried to box him in and pursued him when he drove away. The inspector then fired several shots in the direction of their vehicle, after which the suspects fled.<\/p>\n
The victim, D.D., a second-class police inspector, was driving towards Dr. Sophie Redmondstraat. Near El Molina, occupants of a dark grey Toyota Vitz tried to box in his vehicle. Three armed men then got out.<\/p>\n
D.D. managed to drive away at high speed, but was pursued by the suspects. He then brought his vehicle to a stop and got out. According to police, he drew his service firearm to protect himself and fired several times in the direction of the suspects’ vehicle.<\/p>\n
Using footage from Safe City cameras, police traced the escape route. The suspects drove via Mr. Eddy Brumstraat towards Sophielaan. The Toyota Vitz was later found unattended at the rear of Van Sypensteinlaan and seized for investigation.<\/p>\n
The report was received by Herman Gooding police station. The Kapitale Delicten department is investigating the case and trying to establish the identity and whereabouts of the suspects.<\/p>\n
