Interpol has circulated an international internal alert for Ryan Kenneth Torilal in connection with the criminal investigation into the disappearance of Rodney Leysner. A request by the Surinamese Public Prosecution Service (OM) to have him internationally traced through a public Red Notice has therefore, for the time being, only been partially granted. ABC Suriname reports this.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A<\/span>ccording to ABC Suriname, police services affiliated with Interpol can now access information on Torilal through Interpol’s internal system. However, his name and details have not been published on Interpol’s public wanted persons list.<\/p>\n

For a possible public publication of the Red Notice, Suriname must provide Interpol with additional case-file information. Interpol will then reassess the request.<\/p>\n

OM requested tracing and arrest abroad<\/h3>\n

On September 18, the OM announced that it had asked Interpol to circulate an international alert for Torilal. A draft application for the Red Notice previously reviewed by Key News shows that Torilal is listed with the status \u201cWanted\u201d<\/strong>, while \u201cArrest\u201d<\/strong> is stated as the objective. The application also indicates that he may have travelled to Guyana or Brazil.<\/p>\n

Suriname requested that Interpol locate and arrest him with a view to possible extradition proceedings. A Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant, but a request to police services in affiliated countries to trace a wanted person and, where national legislation permits, provisionally arrest that person.<\/p>\n

What is Torilal suspected of?<\/h3>\n

On August 26, the prosecutor-general already ordered the tracing, arrest and presentation before the authorities of Torilal. According to the official wanted-person alert issued by the Korps Politie Suriname, he is suspected of a series of serious criminal offences. These include participation in a criminal organisation, murder, manslaughter, aggravated assault with premeditation resulting in death, aggravated assault resulting in death, and intentional deprivation of liberty.<\/p>\n

For several of these suspicions, police also cite co-perpetration and complicity. Torilal is also suspected of assisting an offender. Police have classified him as armed and dangerous and a flight risk.<\/p>\n

The original public wanted-person alert of August 26 did not state which specific case these serious suspicions concerned. However, the OM’s subsequent application to Interpol explicitly shows that the international search is linked to the investigation into the disappearance of Rodney Leysner.<\/p>\n

Disappearance of Rodney Leysner<\/h3>\n

Fifty-two-year-old Rodney Leysner has been missing since Saturday, August 15, 2026. He left his home that day and did not return. His disappearance was reported to police a day later. The investigation was subsequently taken over by the Kapitale Delicten department.<\/p>\n

During the course of the investigation, several persons came under suspicion. Three people were arrested and remanded in custody. Torilal remained at large.<\/p>\n

Several days later, a burned-out and crushed vehicle was found and excavated in a swamp in the district of Saramacca. Technical examination of the chassis number later established that it was indeed the Kia Sorento driven by Leysner. There is still no trace whatsoever of Leysner himself.<\/p>\n

Search operations with Dutch rescue dogs<\/h3>\n

In early September, the search was expanded with a specialised team from the Netherlands. Ten rescue dogs were deployed at various locations in Saramacca, including the location where Leysner’s vehicle was found, a plot belonging to a suspect and an adjoining property.<\/p>\n

Leysner or a body was not found during those search operations. Police did report that relevant leads had been obtained for the further investigation. No details have been released about their nature due to the interests of the investigation.<\/p>\n

With the internal alert issued by Interpol, foreign police services can now identify Torilal through their Interpol channels as an internationally wanted suspect. According to ABC Suriname, additional information from Suriname is still required for a public listing on Interpol’s website. Torilal is considered a suspect. The court has not yet ruled on his guilt.<\/p>\n
