A delegation from the Nederlands Instituut voor Marketing (NIMA) met with Minister Andrew Baasaron of Economische Zaken, Ondernemerschap en Technologische Innovatie (EZOTI, Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation) to discuss strengthening Suriname\u2019s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Attention was also given to opportunities for local entrepreneurs to participate in local-content tenders.<\/p>\n
The introductory visit took place at the ministry on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, during a study trip to Suriname by the marketing professionals. The delegation consists of Register Marketeers, also referred to as Executive Marketing Professionals.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, participants exchanged views on economic developments in Suriname and EZOTI\u2019s role. The accompanying experts said they wished to address issues related to strengthening local businesses and their opportunities to compete for contracts.<\/p>\n
Artificial intelligence (AI), Special Economic Zones and broadening the economy were also discussed. This included links to food security and food safety, and the role government, the private sector and education can play in this.<\/p>\n
Those present also discussed how Suriname can become more attractive to administrators, entrepreneurs, professionals and tourists.<\/p>\n
Both parties expressed their intention to continue contact and explore how they can jointly contribute to Suriname\u2019s sustainable economic development. No concrete agreements or follow-up projects were mentioned in the reporting on the visit.
