Since his wrongful release, the man had been the subject of an official manhunt ordered by the prosecutor-general. Cicilson has since been detained again in the cell block of the Geyersvlijt police station.

With his reporting, the search for the detainee, who was mistakenly released on Wednesday, October 14, at approximately 4:50 p.m., has come to an end. According to the police, the situation arose because Cicilson was released instead of the female detainee C.A., for whom the release was actually intended.

After the mix-up came to light, the female detainee was released later that same day. However, Cicilson was already outside the cell block at that time.

Prosecutor-general ordered manhunt

Key News reported on the remarkable mix-up at the Geyersvlijt police station on Thursday, October 15. At that time, it was still unclear how the error could have occurred and whether the wrongly released detainee had been apprehended again.

A day later, on Friday, October 16, Key News reported that the prosecutor-general had ordered the official search, arrest and presentation before a judicial authority of Cicilson. The police subsequently published a wanted notice asking the public to provide information about his whereabouts.

According to the official wanted notice, Cicilson is suspected of, among other things, participation in a criminal organisation, violation of the Wet Verdovende Middelen and breach of the duty of confidentiality or professional or official secrecy. These are suspicions; a conviction has therefore not been established.

Behind bars again

Five days after his wrongful release, Cicilson reported himself to the police. He was subsequently detained again in the cell block at Geyersvlijt.

The police have so far not released further details about the circumstances under which Cicilson reported himself. It is also unclear whether the incident is being internally investigated and whether measures will be taken to prevent similar mix-ups in the future.

With Cicilson’s re-detention, the erroneous release has been rectified, but the question of how a detainee for whom no release order existed was nevertheless able to leave the cell block remains unanswered for now.olitie Suriname

Jurgen Remon Cicilson, the detainee mistakenly released, voluntarily reported to police and was remanded in custody again following a search order by the prosecutor-general.

{"facebook_29234516172805655_1309923202201307":"","facebook_29234516172805655_1158244960706604":"","facebook_29234516172805655_1093738170500407":"","facebook_29234516172805655_108923581283702":"
[16290
24417,16291,20032,16294,24416,24415
post-195974","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-crime-police","tag-cicilson","tag-key-news","tag-nieuws","tag-police","tag-report-3","tag-suriname-3
["GET
