Through various sporting activities, the organisations aim to draw attention to diabetes and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

During the event, participants can take part in a 5-kilometre running race (5K Run), a walking tour over the same distance (5K Walk) and a Dance-a-Thon. Through these activities, the organisers aim to encourage the community to exercise more and to deal more consciously with health and prevention.

Diabetes is a growing health problem worldwide and is also a major public health challenge in Suriname. According to the organisers, many people are insufficiently aware of the risk factors and possible complications of the disease. Healthy nutrition, regular physical activity and timely medical check-ups can help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and detect the condition at an early stage.

International attention to diabetes

Diabetes awareness is among the key international focus areas of Lions Clubs International. The organisation is committed worldwide to education, prevention and support for people living with diabetes.

With the event, Lions Region One and BVSS also want to bring these objectives to attention in Suriname. The organisations emphasise that cooperation between civil society organisations, businesses and citizens is important in addressing health issues.

The event will also take on an international character through the presence of District Governor Zynell Blossom Manbodh-Samuels, who is currently paying an official visit to Suriname. According to Lions Region One, her presence underscores the importance District 60A attaches to joint social projects.

The activities are organised under the international Lions theme ‘Rooted in Service, Growing Stronger Together’ and the regional motto ‘United in Service, Stronger Together’.

Business community supports initiative

The organisation of the Diabetes Awareness Event is made possible in part by contributions from the business community. Supporting companies include Cominex N.V., Gow2 Suriname, Rudisa Group of Companies, Ardac and Roy Boehoe Enterprises.

Lions Region One expresses appreciation for the involvement of these businesses, the participating Lions Clubs and the volunteers who are committed to the event.

With more than 650 registered participants, the organisers expect a large turnout. They hope the activities will not only contribute to a sporting day, but will also motivate participants to make healthier choices over the longer term.

According to Lions Region One, the event should above all make clear that awareness, prevention and an active lifestyle are important components in the fight against diabetes. Through the initiative, the organisation aims to contribute to a healthier Surinamese society.

More than 650 participants have registered for the Diabetes Awareness Event on 31 October, aimed at awareness and prevention through sporting activities in Suriname.

{"facebook_29234516172805655_1309923202201307":"","facebook_29234516172805655_1158244960706604":"","facebook_29234516172805655_1093738170500407":"","facebook_29234516172805655_108923581283702":"
[20286
22383,25108,25107,16291,22385,20032,20643,16292
post-198468","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sport","tag-bvss","tag-diabetes-awareness","tag-exercise","tag-key-news","tag-lions","tag-nieuws","tag-sport","tag-suriname
["GET
