mas opendag 1 Rear Admiral Luigi Sinapi, Secretary-General of the International Hydrographic Organization, will speak at the Maritime Open Days in Suriname about the importance of hydrography for safe shipping and economic development.
The Secretary-General of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), Rear Admiral Luigi Sinapi, will be the keynote speaker at the opening ceremony of the Maritime Open Days in Suriname on Thursday, November 5, 2026. The event will be held from November 5 to 7 at the premises of the Maritime Authority Suriname (MAS) at Cornelis Jongbawstraat 2 in Paramaribo.

With Sinapi’s participation, MAS aims to draw attention to the importance of hydrography for the national economy. Hydrography focuses on mapping and measuring water areas and plays an important role in, among other things, safe navigation and maritime activities.

Masterclass at Anton de Kom Universiteit

In addition to his contribution to the opening ceremony, Sinapi will conduct a masterclass at Anton de Kom Universiteit van Suriname. During this gathering, students, academics and professionals will receive information on the importance of hydrography and developments within this field.

According to MAS, the visit by the IHO chief provides an opportunity to become acquainted with international insights and developments in the field of hydrography.

International cooperation

The gathering is also intended to provide scope for the exchange of knowledge between professionals and other stakeholders in the maritime sector. Strengthening cooperation between national and international stakeholders is also central. The Maritime Open Days will be held from Thursday, November 5 through Saturday, November 7.
