The ministerie van Regionale Ontwikkeling (RO; Ministry of Regional Development) is preparing for the Maroon Legacy Fair and the celebration of the 10th anniversary of two directorates. These activities were the focus of the regular directors’ meeting on Monday, September 28, chaired by Minister Miquella Huur. The progress of ongoing projects and planned staff training was also discussed.
The Maroon Legacy Fair will take place next weekend and offers Maroon entrepreneurs the opportunity to showcase their products and services. The programme also includes workshops and an award ceremony for individuals who have made a special contribution.
Huur called on the directors to actively participate in the activities surrounding Maroon Legacy Month. The meeting also discussed the closing celebration on October 10.
In October, the Directoraat Duurzame Ontwikkeling Inheemsen (DDOI; Directorate for the Sustainable Development of Indigenous Peoples) and the Directoraat Duurzame Ontwikkeling Afro-Surinamers Binnenland (DDOASB; Directorate for the Sustainable Development of Afro-Surinamers in the Interior) will mark their 10th anniversary. With the anniversary, the ministry intends to reflect on the work, results and social significance of both directorates since their establishment in 2016.
The directors’ team further discussed training to strengthen employees’ knowledge and skills. The progress of work within the various directorates and departments was also reviewed.
According to Huur, active involvement and good cooperation within the ministry are needed to implement policy objectives and planned activities.
