The Stichting Viskeuringsinstituut (VKI) is organisationally and financially stable, according to the Ministry of Landbouw, Veeteelt en Visserij (LVV). The discontinuation of non-essential expenditure and stricter follow-up of outstanding receivables have strengthened the institute’s financial position. The ministry reported this in a statement on Wednesday, October 7.
According to acting director Arisha Sital Sewbaran, a recent audit also went well. She said it showed that internal processes are functioning properly. However, further improvement of the organisation and its control mechanisms remains necessary.
“The audit went well and confirms that the processes within VKI are running properly. However, we continue to critically assess our internal organisation. Further strengthening of processes and control mechanisms is necessary to safeguard the quality and continuity of our work,” Sital Sewbaran said.
Over the past period, VKI classified and discontinued several expenses as non-essential. According to LVV, this has given the institute greater control over the spending of available resources. Its debtor policy has also been tightened to improve follow-up of outstanding receivables. The ministry did not provide figures on the financial improvement.
The management and the Raad van Toezicht (Supervisory Board) regularly consult on developments and remaining areas of attention. Board chairman Emanuel Enjoem said this cooperation helps to identify problems in time and seek solutions jointly.
One of the areas of attention is the legal status and legal certainty of staff. According to the management, employees within a stable organisation must also have clarity and security. The statement does not specify which concrete measures are being prepared.
In the period ahead, VKI intends to further strengthen its internal organisation and work processes. Enjoem stressed that the involvement of all parties within the institute is necessary.
“The challenges we face can only be addressed jointly. The involvement of all actors within VKI is essential,” the board chairman said.
