In the early morning, police received a report that a presumably drunk man was causing a disturbance at a shop in the ressort of Tamanredjo. When police arrived at the scene, the man had already left in a vehicle.
Based on a description provided by bystanders, police were able to locate the vehicle shortly afterwards in the immediate vicinity. The driver was signalled to stop, after which officers established that he was under the influence of alcohol.
According to police, the man behaved aggressively towards the officers on duty and made insulting remarks. When police wanted to arrest him, he put up fierce resistance. Several officers were needed to bring him under control.
The suspect was taken to the police station, where he was placed in custody to sober up. Once he was sober again, he was brought before an assistant public prosecutor.
Suspect denies insults and resistance
During his appearance, B.W. denied that he had been guilty of resisting arrest and insulting the police officers. He did admit that he had driven a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
After consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, it was decided to release the suspect after questioning. His driving licence, however, was confiscated for driving under the influence.
