Editorial policy and corrections

Key News Suriname (keynews.sr) is an independent news platform and part of The Key Network N.V. On this page, we explain how our editorial team works, which rules we follow and how we deal with errors. This lets you, as a reader, know what you can hold us accountable for.

Independence

The editorial team determines what is news and how we report on it. Advertisers, sponsors, partners, governments and political parties have no influence on our journalistic choices. You can read how Key News is funded on the Ownership & Funding page.

Reliability and sources

  • We verify facts before publishing. Where possible, we use more than one source.
  • We identify our sources, unless doing so would put a source at risk. We use anonymous sources only if the information is important and we can establish that the source is reliable. The editorial team always knows the identity of such a source.
  • In news about a conflict or allegation, we seek to give all parties involved an opportunity to respond (right of reply). If this is not possible, we state this in the article.
  • We clearly identify press releases and statements from organisations as such.

News, opinion and submitted articles

We keep news and opinion separate. Columns and opinion pieces appear in the Column & Opinie section and reflect the author’s views. We publish contributions from readers, organisations and political parties in the Ingezonden section. Their content is the responsibility of the submitter and does not necessarily reflect the editorial team’s position.

Advertorials and paid content

We publish paid articles only in the Advertorials section, where they are clearly identified as such. Paid content is never presented as regular news.

Authors

Every article states who wrote it. Articles produced jointly by several editors, or based on press releases and official announcements, are published under the name Key News Redactie.

Translations and technology

Key News is published in Dutch, English, Spanish, French and Chinese. The Dutch version is the original text. We use AI tools for translations. The original articles are written and checked by our editorial team. In the event of a difference between a translation and the Dutch text, the Dutch text prevails.

Privacy and victims

We handle the privacy of people in the news with care. As a rule, we mention only the first name and the first letter of the surname of suspects, unless there is a compelling reason not to do so. We do not publish images or information that unnecessarily makes victims or minors identifiable.

Corrections

If we make an error, we correct it as soon as possible. If it concerns a factual error, we state below the article what has been amended and when. We correct minor language or typographical errors without notice. We remove articles only in exceptional cases, for example when someone’s safety or privacy is at stake.

Do you see an error in an article? Let us know via info@keynews.sr or through the contact page. Include the link to the article and what you believe is incorrect. We take every report seriously and respond as soon as possible.

Responses and complaints

Do you have a complaint about an article or about the way we have worked? Please contact the editorial team. We assess every complaint and let you know what we do with it.
