The police in Nieuw-Nickerie arrested 39-year-old V.P. in the early hours of Tuesday, September 16, 2026, after he allegedly threatened police officers on the grounds of the police station on Oost-Kanaalstraat.
According to the preliminary police investigation, the man was on the police premises with a vehicle at around 1.30 a.m. As he drove towards the exit, he got out and walked towards several officers standing in front of the station.
Police state that the man presumably showed signs of alcohol use or may have been under the influence of other intoxicating substances. After officers addressed him, he allegedly threatened the police officers with death. He also allegedly threatened to set the police station on fire.
V.P. was subsequently arrested on suspicion of making threats. Following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, he was remanded in custody pending the investigation.
The vehicle with which the suspect had come to the police premises was seized in the interest of the investigation.
The case has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department of Regio West for further investigation.
