Special traffic and security measures will be in effect around De Nationale Assemblée (DNA, Suriname’s parliament) on Wednesday, September 30, due to the annual address by President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons. During the Extraordinary Public Meeting, the head of state will outline the intended government policy. On that occasion, the government will also submit the draft budgets for the 2027 fiscal year.
From 6 a.m., traffic will be diverted at the intersections of H.A.E. Arronstraat/Grote Combéweg and Kleine Waterstraat/Van Rooseveltkade.
At around 8 a.m., an additional diversion will follow at the Van Sommelsdijckstraat/Mr. Rietbergplein intersection. This applies to traffic coming from Kleine Waterstraat and travelling past the parliament building. The traffic measures will remain in force until after the meeting has ended.
Parking ban within security zone
Staff of surrounding offices are urgently requested not to park vehicles within the designated security zone that day. This zone includes, among other areas, the section of the Waterkant from H.A.E. Arronstraat to the Hoekhuis, the street in front of Dixie Bar and the adjoining area near Mr. F. Lim A Postraat.
The parking bays in front of the DNA building and the pavements around Onafhankelijkheidsplein, Vlaggenplein and the Monument der Gevallenen are also within the security zone.
Vehicles found within this zone will be towed to a storage location at the owner’s expense and risk.
Invitees to the meeting must carry their invitation card and show it to on-duty police officers upon request. Only persons who meet the access requirements will be admitted to the relevant area.
Road users, local residents and staff of surrounding offices are called on to take the measures into account and follow the instructions of police officers on site.
