District Commissioner Clyde Hunswijk of Marowijne-Zuidwest has continued his visits to various villages in the administrative area. During the second part of his working visit to Bernatimoffo, Akalekondre, Abadoekondre, Peto Ondro and Ricanaumoffo, residents brought several bottlenecks and development needs to attention.
Among the main points of concern are the poor condition of access roads, the lack of sufficient street lighting and the need for speed bumps near schools. According to the communities, these facilities are needed to improve road safety and quality of life in the villages.
Attention was also requested for the construction of football fields for sports and recreational activities. In Abadoekondre, there is also a need for a bridge to improve access to the village.
Another recurring problem concerns telecommunications. Residents have requested improvements to the connections of Digicel and Telesur, because, according to them, current connectivity is not adequate everywhere.
Hunswijk indicated that he has taken note of the problems and points of concern mentioned. The matters will be further assessed and addressed where possible. For issues requiring support from the central government, the district commissioner intends to write to the relevant ministries and other relevant bodies.
The working visit is intended to gain direct insight from the communities into current needs and problems. Together with local authorities, possibilities are being considered to improve the living conditions of residents in the various villages.
