District commissioners will receive training on October 13, 14 and 15 to strengthen disaster preparedness in their districts. The Nationaal Coördinatie Centrum voor Rampenbeheersing (NCCR, National Coordination Centre for Disaster Management) discussed this on Tuesday, September 29, with Minister Miquella Huur of Regional Development and her management team.
During the training sessions, district commissioners will learn what information about their districts is needed to draw up new disaster plans. They will also receive tools to prepare for possible disasters within their administrative areas.
Minister Huur sees the training as an opportunity for district commissioners to expand their knowledge and contribute to the development of disaster plans for their districts.
The NCCR, which is responsible for coordinating disaster management in Suriname, will provide the training. The focus will be on how district commissioners can strengthen preparedness within their districts.
From 2017 through 2023, with the exception of 2020, the NCCR provided training in all districts. In 2024, training was held only in Saramacca, Coronie and Nickerie.
