Police in Regio West issued fines to 81 persons during a large-scale mobile enforcement operation. The checks took place from Monday, September 14 through Sunday, September 20, 2026, and formed part of the ‘Verhoogd Vakantie-veiligheidsplan’ (Heightened Holiday Safety Plan) of the Korps Politie Suriname (KPS).
According to the KPS, the focus during the patrols included traffic violations. Speeding violations in particular occurred frequently and formed the largest category of offences.
The total value of fines over the inspection period amounted to SRD 48,115. In addition, one vehicle was seized and towed away by police.
The operation was carried out by the operational services within Regio West. In addition to traffic checks, police units also focused on maintaining public order.
Eight inspections were conducted at public entertainment venues. At two locations, police intervened against groups of loitering youths.
The Korps Politie Suriname said that the mobile patrol and enforcement operations in Regio West will continue. Through the increased presence on the streets, police aim to improve road safety and maintain public order and calm in the area.
