The Suriname Chinese United Association (SCUA) demands that the police track down and arrest the perpetrators of the fatal armed robbery on Wilhelminastraat as soon as possible. The organisation has reacted with shock and outrage to the violent incident on the morning of Friday, November 6, 2026, in which a man of Chinese descent lost his life. According to the association, the case must receive the highest priority from the police.
The robbery took place at around 9.30 a.m. near the intersection of Wilhelminastraat and David Simonstraat in Paramaribo. According to information from the SCUA, three masked and armed men stopped a vehicle, after which shots were fired during the robbery. A man of Chinese descent was struck and died of his injuries.
The suspects fled in a white Toyota Vitz, presumably in the direction of Anton Dragtenweg and Leonsberg. What exactly was taken and the identity of the victim still have to be officially confirmed by the police.
Chinese community deeply shocked
In a statement signed by chairman Liu Jianming, the SCUA expresses its deep concern about the growing sense of insecurity caused by such violent incidents. The association considers it particularly serious that an armed robbery in broad daylight, near a busy traffic and shopping area, has claimed a human life.
According to the organisation, the incident poses a serious threat to public safety and affects the sense of security of both residents and entrepreneurs.
The SCUA extends its condolences to the victim’s relatives and stresses that such violent crimes must not go unanswered.
Call for intensive police investigation
On behalf of the Chinese community, the association makes an urgent appeal to the Korps Politie Suriname (Suriname Police Force) to deploy all available resources and specialised investigation teams to locate the suspects.
The SCUA demands that the full circumstances of the crime be established and that those responsible be brought before the court. The organisation also advocates for the perpetrators to be severely punished in accordance with the law.
In addition, the association asks the police to regularly inform the public about the progress of the investigation. According to the SCUA, transparent communication is necessary to maintain confidence in law enforcement.
More patrols on busy roads
In addition to locating the suspects, the SCUA wants the police to take preventive measures to prevent similar incidents. The organisation advocates for more intensive patrols on busy traffic arteries and faster police intervention, especially during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
Witnesses and other persons with relevant information are also called on to report to the police.
Chairman Liu Jianming concludes the statement with a clear demand on behalf of the association: “We demand that justice be done and that the perpetrators be severely punished.”
