DNA member Lösche: “Pupils will attend school for less than five weeks in the first term”

Tachana Losche DNA member Lösche warns that, due to a rotation system, pupils will attend school for only five weeks in the first term because of insufficient school places and the lack of staff housing for teachers.

“Pupils at certain schools will attend school for less than five weeks in the first quarter,” DNA member Tashana Lösche said in parliament on Tuesday.

Lösche acknowledges that the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture is facing challenges at the start of the new school year. However, she considers it unacceptable that pupils can attend school for only five weeks in the first quarter.

The parliamentarian has seen timetables from certain schools and concludes from these that pupils will attend school for only two weeks per month. According to Lösche, this means that students will receive only five weeks of education at school in the first quarter.

Because insufficient places are available at the schools, school management is being forced to use a rotation system. The pupils attend school every other day: three days one week and two days the following week. Lösche demanded that a solution be found as soon as possible, so that students can attend school every school day.

Lösche further stated that the school in the ressort Klaaskreek has not yet started because teachers do not have official residences. “So the teachers cannot provide lessons, which is why the school has not yet started.” She also asked the government for a swift solution to this issue.
