Regian ‘The Immortal’ Eersel retained his ONE world title in lightweight Muay Thai on Friday, October 2. The Surinamese fighter defeated Englishman George ‘G-Unit’ Jarvis by knockout in the fourth round of the main event at The Inner Circle 33.
Eersel had to endure a difficult opening round. Jarvis started with a tight defence and used feints to set up his attacks. The titleholder responded with a sharp one-two combination and a flying knee.
Despite the damage he sustained, Jarvis remained dangerous. With a heavy left hook, he sent Eersel to the canvas. The champion managed to recover and made it to the end of the round.
In the second round, Jarvis increased the pressure further. Eersel, however, remained patient and capitalised on an opening in his opponent’s defence. With a clean left hook to the chin, he knocked down the challenger.
With a knockdown on both sides, the fighters entered the third round. Eersel, who also holds the ONE world title in lightweight kickboxing, built up his attacks with a jab and longer combinations. Jarvis continued to respond with heavy hooks to the head and body.
As the fight progressed, Eersel gained more control. With straight punches, he repeatedly struck the Englishman’s increasingly swollen right eye.
In the fourth round, Eersel initially put his opponent under pressure with high kicks. When Jarvis showed signs of fatigue, the champion switched back to his punches. A well-placed left hook sent the challenger to the canvas for the second time.
Jarvis immediately grabbed his right eye, after which the referee stopped the fight one minute and 39 seconds into the fourth round.
With the victory, Eersel defended his world title in lightweight Muay Thai for the fourth time. His career record now stands at 66 victories and five defeats.
