Jyoti Oedairadjsingh will leave for Sweden this month on a full scholarship to pursue a master’s degree at the World Maritime University. She is the fourth Surinamese to be admitted to the renowned maritime educational institution.
Maritieme Autoriteit Suriname (MAS) is thus continuing to invest in the development of Surinamese maritime talent. According to the organisation, the programme should contribute to greater knowledge and leadership within the national maritime sector.
The World Maritime University was established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and, according to MAS, is among the world’s leading maritime educational institutions. Each year, the university brings together maritime professionals from various countries.
The knowledge and experience gained internationally should contribute to innovation, professionalisation and the further development of Suriname’s maritime sector. MAS expects such investments will also strengthen Suriname’s position within the international maritime community.
