The 43-year-old motorist S.B. was arrested by police from the Latour station on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after he struck a three-year-old girl on Watamaleostraat. Preliminary police investigation shows that the driver did not possess a valid driver’s licence.

According to police, S.B. was driving along Watamaleostraat, coming from the direction of Bierdjoeweg and heading towards Hebi Weristraat. The three-year-old girl, identified by the initials B.K., was standing on the roadside verge at the time. At an unguarded moment, the child ran into the street and was hit by the passenger car.

The girl sustained injuries in the collision and was taken by private transport to the Emergency Department (SEH) of the Academisch Ziekenhuis Paramaribo for medical treatment. No further information was provided on the severity of her injuries.

Following the collision, an incident also occurred involving the victim’s aunt. According to police, she became so emotional that she smashed the windscreen of S.B.’s car. The woman later reported to the police station that same day.

The motorist was arrested by police. Following consultation with the Openbaar Ministerie (Public Prosecution Service), it was decided to remand S.B. in custody pending the investigation.
