The Suriname Police Force (KPS), the Chinese Embassy, representatives of the Chinese community, and the Chinese business community held talks on Thursday, June 25, 2026, regarding the security situation in Suriname. The joint security meeting took place at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.
Theinitiative for the meeting came from the Chinese Embassy. According to the KPS, the consultation is of great importance because it contributes to better cooperation between the police, the diplomatic mission, business leaders, and community organizations. The police force expresses its appreciation for the contributions of, among others, the Surinamese Chinese United Association (SCUA), the Suriname Chinese Business Alliance, and the Association of Chinese Enterprises.
During the meeting, speakers included Chinese Ambassador Lin Ji and Police Chief Melvin Pinas. They discussed current security challenges and approaches to combating crime in Suriname. The focus was on maintaining public order and strengthening a safe business environment.
After the speeches, representatives and business leaders had the opportunity to voice their concerns and make suggestions. They also shared insights on how cooperation with the police could be further improved. According to the KPS, open dialogue is important for addressing security issues within society and the business community in a more targeted manner.
The proposals discussed include improving response mechanisms, strengthening communication channels, and intensifying local prevention measures. The KPS states that all suggestions and recommendations have been noted and will be further developed.
Police leadership says it intends to translate the insights provided into concrete measures. The police force emphasizes its continued commitment to ensuring a safe, stable, and harmonious living and working environment for citizens and business owners in Suriname.
