A man identified as C.R. was killed in a stabbing incident on Zwaardragersvisweg in Zoelen, Commewijne district, on Saturday morning, 3 October. Police arrested suspect D.J. shortly after the incident. Following consultation with the Openbaar Ministerie (Public Prosecution Service), he was remanded in custody.
According to the preliminary police investigation, D.J. visited a woman, C.I., with whom he is said to have had a relationship. Upon arrival, he found her former partner there. An argument between the two men escalated into a fight. D.J. allegedly pulled a knife and injured the former partner before fleeing on foot.
C.R., the woman’s brother, pursued him. During the pursuit, a struggle broke out between him and the suspect, with both ending up in a roadside ditch. D.J. allegedly stabbed C.R. several times there. The victim died at the scene from his injuries.
Officers from the Nieuw-Amsterdam police station went to the location following the report and arrested the suspect shortly afterwards. No further information has been provided about the condition of the injured former partner.
C.R.’s body has been seized for an autopsy. The Kapitale Delicten department is investigating the circumstances of the incident.
