With championships for Eddy Wilson and Soepe Koese, the month of September has been highly productive for the sport of bodybuilding in Suriname. Eddy Wilson won the South American IFBB Bodybuilding title in Buenos Aires, while Soepe Koese won the Amateur Mr. Olympia in the Dominican Republic.
Wilson won the Bodybuilding Open category during the 51st edition of the IFBB South American Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In a line-up of eleven participants, he was highly dominant. According to Wilson, it was a pleasant and educational experience. Initially, he and Militia Galimo doubted whether they should go because of reports of racism in Argentina. “We were pleasantly surprised that there was no sign of that. Friendly people and an extremely pleasant stay.”
The Surinamese bodybuilders, together with the other athletes from Jamaica, Barbados and the Dominican Republic, among others, had a very good time. “I am happy that I took part in this competition and was able to add this title to my CV,” Wilson said in an interview with the Surinaamse Bodybuilding- en Weightliftingbond (SBWB).
Militia Galimo unfortunately failed to qualify for the final in the Wellness Bikini class, in a line-up of fifteen women. Ten countries and more than 500 athletes took part in the 2026 South American Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships.
