“The responsibility for distributing the Moni Karta cards will lie with the bank,” Minister of Social Affairs and Housing Diana Pokie said on Wednesday before the start of the Council of Ministers.
Pokie said that under the new contract with the Surinamese Post Savings Bank (SPSB), the distribution of these cards will be handled by the bank. Customers who have not collected their cards since October 2025 are being called on to do so. After this, the distribution of these documents will be handled by the SPSB.
The minister said that, in order to reduce benefit fraud, it was decided to have the bank distribute these documents. “So this is being outsourced.” People who have not collected their cards since October 2025 will be given one final opportunity to do so.
She finds it strange that so many people have not collected their cards. “I think something went wrong somewhere; perhaps the people are in another system but on different cards.” She found cartel-like practices and cooperation, involving significant manipulation of the Moni Karta cards. “The people do exist somewhere, but this has been arranged in such a way that fraud can be committed.”
