Swimming pool behind Moengo Stadion to open to the public soon

District Commissioner Clyde Hunswijk of Marowijne-Zuidwest spoke with initiator Cornelia Pinas on Tuesday, September 9, about the progress of the project. According to Pinas, the work is proceeding according to schedule and is expected to be completed in the short term.

Hunswijk expressed his satisfaction with the progress. He stressed that the district commissioner’s office will continue to provide support in the further implementation of the project.

Plans for school swimming

After the opening, consideration will be given to setting up a school swimming project for children from the district. The swimming pool should therefore not only become a place for relaxation, but also contribute to swimming skills and sports development. According to Pinas, the facility could also develop into a tourist and recreational attraction in Marowijne.

The district commissioner expects the swimming pool to make an important contribution to sports, relaxation and recreation in the community. He calls on residents to cherish the facility and support the project, so that the swimming pool can also be preserved in the longer term.

Realisation after 36 years

According to Hunswijk, it is remarkable that the swimming pool is finally being realised and opened to the community after 36 years. He expressed his appreciation for Pinas’s efforts and described the completion of the project as a historic achievement for Moengo and the Marowijne district.
