The police removed three tractor-trailer combinations from traffic and impounded them during a traffic check on Avobakaweg on Friday, September 25. The combinations were transporting heavy machinery and showed serious technical defects. The three drivers were each fined SRD 13,500.
Parts of the transported machinery protruded beyond the trailers. According to police, the transport did not comply with the applicable regulations and lacked the required police escort. This could have created dangerous situations for other road users.
The check also showed that the trailers were not equipped with the required brakes, lighting and reflectors. Several trailers also lacked turn signals and the prescribed TR plates.
Due to the violations and the risks to road safety, the three vehicle combinations were impounded. The Technical Service has since reinspected the vehicles. The tractors were approved, but the trailers were rejected because of their technical defects.
The checks are aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic regulations and combating unsafe heavy transport.
