Venezolaanse President Delcy Rodriguez voor officieel bezoek naar Suriname e1789054236784 Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez is visiting Suriname to strengthen the fifty-year diplomatic ties and deepen cooperation in agriculture, energy, tourism and education.

Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez will pay an official visit to Suriname on Friday, September 11. The visit is taking place at the invitation of President Jennifer Simons and is aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Suriname and Venezuela have now maintained diplomatic relations for fifty years. According to the Surinamese government, this anniversary provides an opportunity to reaffirm the ties between the two countries, deepen existing partnerships and explore new opportunities for cooperation.

During the visit, both heads of state and their delegations will hold consultations on cooperation in various policy areas. These include agriculture, fisheries, hydrocarbons, connectivity, tourism, education and capacity building.

Economic and technical cooperation

Opportunities to further expand economic and technical cooperation between Suriname and Venezuela will also be discussed. This cooperation should contribute to the development and well-being of both countries and their populations.

In addition, the heads of state will exchange views on shared interests within regional and multilateral organisations. According to the government, the visit should contribute to the sustainable anchoring of relations between the two countries.

The agreements made during the official visit should provide direction for results-oriented cooperation that promotes the development, resilience and prosperity of Suriname and Venezuela.
