Apresumably incorrect manoeuvre by a 56-year-old female motorist led to a serious collision involving three vehicles on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, on the Afobakaweg, near mast 5. Two people were injured in the accident, including a 17-year-old passenger.

Preliminary police investigations by the Paranam police station show that the 56-year-old driver, A.S., was travelling from Paranam towards Klaaskreek in her black Toyota Hilux pick-up. For reasons still unknown, she presumably made an incorrect manoeuvre, causing her to end up in the lane of oncoming traffic.

The Toyota Hilux then collided head-on with a white Isuzu pick-up. Due to the force of the collision, the Toyota subsequently also struck a truck transporting gas cylinders.

The driver of the Toyota Hilux and 17-year-old J.M., who was a passenger in the Isuzu, sustained injuries in the accident. Both victims were taken by ambulance to the Emergency Department of the Academisch Ziekenhuis Paramaribo (AZP) for medical treatment. No information has been released about the severity of their injuries.

All three vehicles sustained considerable material damage and had to be removed by a towing service. Police have not yet established the exact circumstances of the accident. The investigation is continuing.
