Six young people from the Boven-Suriname area successfully completed the ‘Personal Leadership’ training on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. The programme was provided by Stichting Productieve Werkeenheden (SPWE) in cooperation with Tropenbos Suriname.
The training is part of a broader project aimed at strengthening young people in their personal and communication skills. The participants are being prepared to independently conduct workshops and create greater awareness about climate change within their communities.
The programme lasted approximately three months and consisted of three components: effective public speaking, conversation techniques and personal leadership.
During the certificate presentation, Deputy Minister of Health, Welfare and Labour (VWA), Dr Raj Jadnanansing, congratulated the young people on their achievement. He called on the participants to actively apply the knowledge and skills they had gained. According to him, personal development forms an important foundation for effective leadership.
SPWE director Etienne Etman also reflected on the young people’s achievement. He encouraged them to put their knowledge into practice, continue developing themselves and in this way make a positive contribution to their community and society.
With the completion of the programme, the participants now have practical skills to take responsibility, pass on knowledge and further stimulate discussion on climate change within the Boven-Suriname area, according to the organisers.
