Richelieu police arrested 28-year-old K.R. on Saturday, 3 October, on suspicion of fraud and embezzling a large sum of money from his ex-girlfriend. The woman had given him money in 2025 to purchase a vehicle, but the car was never delivered.
According to police, the suspect was in a relationship with the victim and told her that he could arrange a vehicle for her through his work at a car dealership. The woman then handed him an amount in Surinamese dollars to pay a deposit.
However, the vehicle was never delivered. According to the report, K.R. kept her waiting for nearly a year and repeatedly gave a different explanation for the vehicle’s non-delivery.
When the woman demanded her money back, the suspect allegedly stated that he had used the amount to pay off his debts. He offered to repay the money in instalments. The woman eventually went to the police and filed a report.
K.R. was subsequently arrested and brought before an assistant public prosecutor. Following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, he was remanded in custody. Richelieu police are continuing the investigation.
