The Moengo police arrested 20-year-old M.J. on Wednesday, October 7, on suspicion of stealing money and gold jewellery from his aunt’s bedroom. Following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, the suspect was remanded in custody.
The 48-year-old M.I. filed a report against her nephew, with whom she lived, on September 23. According to her statement, she travelled to French Guiana on September 4. Before leaving, she locked her bedroom. She had stored various amounts of money in SRD and gold jewellery in the room.
Upon returning, the woman discovered that the money and jewellery had disappeared. She suspected that her nephew had taken them. According to the police, M.J. returned part of the stolen items during a family meeting, including a gold baby necklace. The woman subsequently filed a report.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly used a false key to gain access to the bedroom three times in order to take items. According to the police, he denies knowing anything about the gold jewellery. Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
