Suriname has dropped three places in the FIFA rankings published by world football’s governing body on Wednesday. The national football team fell from 125th to 128th place.
The team of national coach Henk Fraser started the past FIFA period strongly. Suriname won 3-2 away to Honduras in the Concacaf Nations League and then defeated Martinique 2-1 at home.
This was followed by a scoreless draw against Guatemala at home. In the final group match, away to Guatemala, Suriname needed only a draw to reach the quarter-finals. However, the team lost 1-0.
Richonell Margaret received a red card around the 70th minute, after which Suriname conceded the decisive goal in stoppage time. As a result, the team finished third in the group, behind Guatemala and Jamaica, and missed out on a place in the quarter-finals.
Nothing changed in the top four of the FIFA rankings. Spain remains top, followed by Argentina, France and England. Portugal moved up two places and is now fifth. Brazil and Morocco each dropped one place as a result.
Croatia also fell in the rankings, following, among other things, a 7-0 defeat against England. Switzerland moved up after winning all four of its matches in Division B of the Nations League.
