The 24-year-old B.L. was arrested on the Weg naar West-Suriname, in the vicinity of Moeroekriki, after a Glock pistol and ten live rounds were found on him. He is suspected of violating the Firearms Act.
A game warden and staff members of the Dienst ’s Lands Bosbeheer en Bostoezicht (LBB) carried out the arrest. They subsequently handed the suspect over to police at the Zanderij station for further investigation.
During a brief interrogation, B.L. stated that he does not have special authorisation to possess a firearm. According to him, he carried the weapon, a Glock model 23, for his personal protection. He also stated that the pistol belonged to his now deceased father.
B.L. has been detained in the interest of the investigation. Police are continuing the investigation.
