Police from the De Nieuwe Grond station have arrested and detained 24-year-old L.J.C. on suspicion of grievous assault against a bar owner. The victim sustained, among other injuries, a rib fracture. A second suspect remains at large.
The assault followed a dispute over garbage bags that had been placed on the roadside verge in front of the bar. The two suspects, together with several employees of a maintenance company, were carrying out mowing work. The cut grass was collected in garbage bags and placed on the roadside verge.
According to police, authorities had previously pointed out to the bar owner that he and others were not allowed to place rubbish on the roadside verge. When he confronted the men about the garbage bags, an argument arose.
During the subsequent confrontation, both men allegedly kicked the bar owner and struck him with open hands and fists. The assault was captured on camera footage.
The victim was referred for medical treatment. Police are working to arrest the second suspect and are continuing the investigation.
