839475373 1118561887173426 7901450200306777047 n The DNA committee is discussing responses to a legislative amendment that limits attachment of government funds in order to safeguard the continuity of public services. Oral hearings will follow shortly.

The Committee of Rapporteurs of De Nationale Assemblée (DNA, Suriname’s parliament) on Monday, 5 October, discussed the responses received to the proposed amendment to the Code of Civil Procedure. The bill is intended, among other things, to regulate how attachments on goods and funds designated for public service can be lifted.

The proposed regulation is intended to prevent funds needed for the performance of government duties from becoming unavailable due to attachment. It aims to ensure the continuity of public services.

Under the leadership of committee chair Rossellie Cotino, members discussed the written responses from various stakeholders. They also considered which parties will be invited for an oral hearing. The committee seeks further clarification on the responses and intends to discuss the different positions in greater detail.

Based on the written submissions and the planned hearings, the committee will determine the next steps. The consideration of the bill can then continue in the plenary session of DNA.

In addition to Cotino, committee members Krishnakoemarie Mathoera, Steven Reyme, Mohamed Fatehmahomed, Bronto Somohardjo and Jennifer Vreedzaam attended the meeting. Ingrid Karta-Bink was present as a permanent observer.
