The Criminal Investigation Department of Region West has arrested 45-year-old B.J. in connection with a violent robbery at a shop on Fredericiweg in Nickerie. During the incident, a guard was tied up and the perpetrators made off with a large sum of money in Surinamese dollars.
The violent robbery took place on the night of September 7 to 8, 2026. During the police investigation, B.J. emerged as a suspect.
The man was traced and arrested on Friday, September 18, near his home on Sairanweg in Nickerie. The stolen money was not found on him at the time of his arrest.
Following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, B.J. was remanded in custody in the interest of the further investigation.
The Criminal Investigation Department of Region West is continuing the investigation. Police have not yet announced whether other suspects are being sought.
