Police in Moengo on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, arrested 41-year-old M.R., alias ‘Brio’, in Albina on suspicion of aggravated assault. The arrest followed after the 40-year-old victim, M.B., had filed a report earlier that day.
The assault took place on Friday, September 11, during a visit to a fair. According to the victim’s statement, the suspect approached him and asked what he had in his bag. After M.B. answered and the suspect looked in the bag, the situation got out of hand.
M.R. allegedly then punched the victim in the face. M.B. subsequently walked away, but lost consciousness a short time later.
A day later, the victim discovered video footage of the incident on social media. The footage reportedly shows the suspect sitting on top of the unconscious man and striking him in the face several times.
The victim had to be treated at the scene by a doctor.
After consultation with the Openbaar Ministerie (Public Prosecution Service), M.R. was remanded in police custody. The investigation in this case is continuing.
