A man was killed in a shooting in the Snesi Bergi area, near Sarakreek in the Brokopondo district, on Thursday afternoon, October 22, 2026. The suspected shooter fled after the incident and is being sought by police.

According to initial information, the victim was allegedly shot by a man who remains unidentified. The motive for the shooting is believed to lie in a long-running feud between the two men.

The victim sustained serious injuries in the shooting and died at the scene. A doctor who was called in officially pronounced the death. The body was subsequently seized by police for an autopsy, in consultation with the Openbaar Ministerie (OM, Public Prosecution Service).

The suspect fled after the incident and has not yet been arrested. Due to the seriousness of the case, the investigation has been transferred to the afdeling Kapitale Delicten (KD, Major Crimes Division).
