A man has been arrested in the gold settlement of 21 Pasi in the district of Brokopondo after an illegal revolver and an ammunition magazine were found in his possession. The arrest took place during a joint operation by an intelligence unit of the Korps Politie Suriname (KPS) and soldiers of the Nationaal Leger.
The police and soldiers were carrying out work in the area when the suspect was arrested. A check showed that the man was in possession of a revolver for which he did not have a valid permit. An ammunition magazine was also found.
After his arrest, the suspect was handed over to the police in Bronsweg for further handling of the case.
The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed. It is also not yet clear what the man intended to do with the firearm and whether any cartridges were actually found.
The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
