Suppliers may henceforth load and unload goods in the centre of Albina only with a permit from the district commissioner. The measure is intended to improve traffic flow and limit nuisance caused by freight vehicles, the district commissioner’s office reports.
District Commissioner Marvin Vijent held consultations on Wednesday, September 23, with suppliers who regularly deliver goods in the centre. The traffic situation and arrangements for regulating loading and unloading were discussed.
According to the commissioner’s office, freight vehicles are parked at various locations in the centre, hindering other traffic. Struikenstraat has been designated as the location for loading and unloading. However, suppliers have indicated that they also wish to operate closer to the businesses and shops they supply.
To accommodate this, permits for loading and unloading at pre-designated locations will be issued under the Rijbesluit. Suppliers must comply with the conditions attached to the permit.
With the arrangement, the district commissioner’s office aims to keep the supply of shops and businesses possible while at the same time preventing freight vehicles from unnecessarily obstructing traffic flow in the centre.
