Pride Month Suriname will open on Thursday, October 1, at TBL Cinema with a screening of the Dutch film ANNE+. Throughout the month, there will be activities for the LGBTQIA+ community, friends, family and allies.
After the opening film, there will be a reception. According to the organisation, the film is free to attend with a minimum purchase of SRD 50 at TBL Cinema.
Films are also scheduled later in October: Four Mothers on October 7, Praia do Futuro (Future Beach) on October 14 and Miséricorde on October 28. The film programme already starts on September 27 with Les Amours d’Anaïs.
In addition to films, there will be gatherings for discussions and personal stories. On October 13, Spice Quest will host a discussion on the future of Pride. During Story Hour on October 16, the theme will be ‘I Am Trans’. Registration is required for that gathering.
Ballroom Suriname will organise activities at OnStage Performing Arts on October 19, 20, 22, 26, 27 and 28. According to the organisation, these provide space for expression and meeting others.
The month will conclude on October 31 with the Pride Walk and the Q-Yard Party. The programme starts at 4.30 p.m. at Zus & Zo. With the walk, the organisation aims to draw attention to visibility and solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community in Suriname.
