The police arrested 28-year-old R.W. on Thursday, September 24. He is suspected of sexually abusing his 12-year-old niece and illegally possessing ammunition. According to the police, the man had been in hiding since early August.
The girl’s mother filed a report at Latour police station in early August after her daughter told her that she had been abused by her uncle. When the mother confronted R.W. about this, he fled, according to the police.
Members of the Regio Bijstand Team Paramaribo tracked down the suspect in cooperation with the intelligence service and the Jeugdzaken department. During his arrest, officers found several live rounds. The ammunition was confiscated.
Following consultation with the Openbaar Ministerie (Public Prosecution Service), R.W. was remanded in custody. The Jeugdzaken department is continuing its investigation into the case.
