The 24-year-old J.A., who is suspected of involvement in a shooting incident at Manela Inn on Zwartenhovenbrugstraat, reported to the Detective Service of the Paramaribo Region together with his lawyer on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The shooting incident took place in June this year. According to the preliminary police investigation, J.A. allegedly fired two shots at a man using an illegal firearm. The victim was hit in his left leg.
The investigation further revealed that the suspect and the victim had had an argument a few days before the incident. On the day of the shooting incident, the two encountered each other again, after which the suspect, according to the police, shot the victim twice.
After the shooting incident, J.A. left the location. The victim was taken by ambulance to the Emergency Department of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo, where he received medical treatment.
After reporting to the police, J.A. was detained following consultation with the Public Prosecution Service. The investigation into the case is continuing.
