A shooting incident occurred on Thursday evening at the union building of the Ogem Werknemersorganisatie Suriname (OWOS). At least one person was injured.
According to initial information, several OWOS members and other persons involved were present at the union building at the time of the shooting. The incident took place on the eve of the board elections of the employees’ organisation at Energie Bedrijven Suriname (EBS).
A person reportedly fired from a grey passenger car in the direction of those present. A man known as Ceder was hit. No official details about his medical condition have yet been released.
Earlier in the day, Ceder was interviewed by D-TV Express on the OWOS premises. The news channel spoke there with several union members in connection with the board elections.
Police arrived at the scene following the report and launched an investigation. The motive for the shooting and the identity of the shooter have not yet been officially established.
It is also not yet clear whether the incident is connected to the OWOS board elections. Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances.
