The Indigenous community of Tepu in southern Suriname currently has no safe access to drinking water. According to Tra Fas De, the village’s water supply has been damaged, forcing residents to rely on water from the river.
Bestuursopzichter Theo, the community’s contact person, reports that residents have complaints of diarrhoea and vomiting. It has not yet been established whether these health complaints are related to the use of river water.
An investigation into the water quality is therefore urgently needed. The community also needs the damaged water supply to be repaired and access to safe drinking water.
As long as the quality of the river water remains unknown and the water supply has not been repaired, the situation remains worrying for residents.
